CAMPS

I CAN Camps are for teenagers and young adults who want to empower themselves to say ‘I CAN’ and develop a social network of other young people on the spectrum.

“Before I came to this network I felt like a social nobody. Now I feel like a somebody.”

“My friends have been using ‘Autism’ as an insult in their home. After camp I felt I had the confidence to tell them about my Asperger’s and my experience of Autism.”

“Next September I’ll be 18 and I want to come back to camp as a Facilitator.”

The dates for the 2018 Camps are as follows. Please click on the links below to express your interest or if you have any questions concerning our camps, please email our Camps Coordinator.

The I CAN Network runs camps for young people on the Autism Spectrum. I CAN offers three types of camps:

  • Teens camps (3) for young people in Years 7-9 at school or if not attending school are the equivalent age (approximately 12-15 yrs). Two of these camps are located at the Doxa Camp in Malmsbury, Victoria and the remaining camp is at Kangaroobie Camp in Princetown, South West Victoria
  • Teens camp for young people in Years 8-11 at school or if not attending school are equivalent age (approximately 14-17). This camp is located at Kindilan, a PGL Adventure Campsite in Redland Bay, Queensland.
  • Young Adults camp for young people approximately 16-20 yrs. This camp will be located at Camp Cooriemungle in Cooriemungle, South West Victoria.

All are three day residential camps. Personal development is a big focus of our camps, and we spend the three days building the social network of young people on the Autism Spectrum, developing leadership skills and empowering them with an ‘I CAN’ attitude.

Participants can take part in workshops that suit their skills and interests, on topics as diverse as writing, drawing, painting, music, construction and performance arts. At the camps we run activities such as rock climbing, archery, team exercises and horsemanship. Another of our teen camps’ main attractions is the ‘Dress to Obsess’ dance, where participants can dress up as their special interest and hit the dance floor loud and proud.
